Fairy Tale v Magic Realism

   Hi everyone,
This is my first NYC@midnight and am hoping that someone might shed light on the fairy tale genre. 

The story I have written might be more leaning toward magic realism, also not my genre.

My question is, is there flexibility in the interpretation of the genre? So far, most of what I have read seems closer to fairy tales.
