Write for yourself.  The minute you start writing for "an audience" I think you are doomed.

We need to trust our audience and give them some credit.  Even if they don't know every word, I'm sure they will get drift of it.

I'll get off my soapbox now. Smile

Hahaha.

Sticking your todger in a blender is an experience you'll never forget.

aurora, thanks for the offer. I've sent the script out to a few American writer friends and I'm awaiting feedback. If I need another opinion, I might just take you up on that.

Blimey, I'm at sixes and sevens here. I thought it was the dog's bollocks but it's al gone arse over tit. I'll be narked if I have to rewrite this sodding codswallop just so these bleeding seppos have a scooby what's going on. Wink

Uh oh....

Technically a nonce is a moment, but it's also a slang term for a sex offender.

I think it's back to the drawing board on this one Shocked

I am English btw.

As George Bernard Shaw once said, "England and America are two countries separated by a common language."

Unless you're making the language confusion part of the story, I'd stick to terms which are commonly understood.

On the DVD for Shaun of the Dead, they said they intentionally changed "pissed" to "drunk" because in the US "pissed" means "angry."

Honestly, if I were trying to figure this out, this is what I would come away with:

Damn, I'm up against the wall here.  I thought I was the dog's butt but it's all gone to hell in a handbasket now.  I'll be really upset if I have to rewrite this sh*tty bullsh*t just so these f***ing idiots (hope you aren't talking about our distinguished judges) have a inkling of what's going on.

I'd get the same thing, except substitute "bee's knees" or "the 'nads" for dog's butt.  It really does depend on context.  That's why I think you're smart to at least think about this beforehand.  If your readers can pick up what it means in context, then you'll be fine.

That's pretty close Smile

dog's bollocks or mutt's nuts = something really fantastic. the best there is. I think it derives the fact that a dog's testicles are so amazing that they can't stop licking them

Seppo is cockney rhyming slang for an American: Septic Tank = Yank

Scooby is also rhyming slang: Scooby Doo = Clue
