Thanks SherilS -- it doesn't include the title page. Literally, it's just two words over. Yikes. I was so excited to do this and didn't want to be disqualified because of a word count discrepancy.

I just looked into this further. The Microsoft Word program is counting ellipses and dashes as words in my document. I'm concerned about this. (What's more, different versions of Word come up with different word counts.)
I didn't go over the word limit, but Word is going to say that I did. No one should be dinged for something like this.

I have noticed several things on word count that could impact not only this contest but other venues as well. In Word, when you hyphenate two words, which the program frequently demands, it drops one word in the count. In short, there is inconsistency across various programs.
