Hi all - I'm writing a story that has dates (eg 1968) and ages (eg 22 years old). What's the rule here regarding word count on a date / number like this? (My style guide usually goes words up to ten, then numerals thereafter - ie: eight, nine, ten, 11, 12 - but where do the competition rules stand on this kind of use and word count?
Thanks!

We don't have specific rules for writing dates and numbers, but it sounds like you would be fine using your style guide. Most likely, numbers such as 1968, eight, ten, 11, 12, etc. will be counted as one word. But, we would recommend typing out the exact numbers and text you would like to use in the story submission form ahead of the deadline so you know exactly how the form counts them.

Also, please keep in mind some judges may provide suggestions on non-standard usage of numbers and dates in the story. We hope this helps, but please let us know if you have any other questions or need anything else. Good luck!

Cool - I went with the numbers on the submission form. A tight 100 on the nose :)
