Will that be fun "bending" of the prompts, or will that garner a big "boooooooo" from the competition? My assigned 'character' might be really fun, if taken literally vs figuratively.
This isn't it, but to illustrate what I mean - let's say the character prompt was "cold fish" and instead of writing in a bummer of a character I used an actual cold fish as a major 'character' throughout the story... What do we think? Edited by Annie K - 04 Apr 2025 at 1:45am |

If it functions as a character, why not?

In the first round my assigned character was a grave robber. The only grave robber in my story was literally a dog, and I placed second in my group. A dog is obviously not exactly the same as an inanimate object, but I think as long as it's clear that the object fulfils the character assignment you should be fine.

Years ago I was in a group that got assigned Spy. One writer made all of the characters food items inside a refrigerator. Maybe the ketchup was the spy? I don't remember. Anyway, the story placed and the writer moved on to the next round.
I suppose it could depend on the judges you get, but it's definitely been done! |
