I'm now having an existential crisis about if a prison would be considered "an institute, " as others are arguing with me that an institute would be academic or research oriented.

Even if you only write a hundred words an hour, that still gives you an hour to edit. Tons of time.

I ended up just vomiting out 1070 words in the span of an hour after not sleeping for a really long time. Pretty sure it's incoherent at the moment, but coherence is for cowards. Or something.

Haha thanks Kristina – I've missed your unconditional moral support on here in my time away from the forum! No idea why I always completely disregard the Saturday of these competitions? :D

Oh mate, I'm totes in the institute / horror / newspaper clipping group too!

I would defo say a prison falls under the dictionary definition of an institute/institution. They'd be wrong to DQ you for that. Maybe you could refer to it at some point as something a bit more clinical like a 'correctional facility'?

I'm going with it for now as my draft is almost done... but (of course) the train of thought gave me another idea. So I might end up with a second assignment done

I have a cardroom and there are cardrooms that are not just in casinos and that's a source of conflict for me as I got feedback on round one that indicated the judge thought the symbolism made them think of something else and using two words in a google search (or if it were in kindle highlighting it which is what readers do if they aren't sure of meaning) would have given them knowledge.

A mental institution could be considered a prison to the person who isn't free to leave and there "is" a genuine "prison institute" out there. There is also a "national institute of corrections". Good luck solving your crisis.

I only just started writing maybe an hour ago. Does a "crime caper" have to be humorous? The genre list describes it as "lighthearted," but the only idea I can come up with is more of a social satire revenge story, lol. I scored poorly in round 1 anyway, so I guess if I get disqualified it's no big deal. Tongue

Location question: if my location is "boat parade" ... do the spectators along the shore of said parade still count as being "at that location" even if they aren't IN the parade? Or does it have to take place WITHIN the boat parade??

ARGH

It doesn't have to be humorous, but it's not, let's say, a serial killer drama like Dexter or something more horrific like Saw. A caper is more on the side of adventurous, roguish, playful. A lot of heist films fall under crime caper.
