Topic: SSC2010 Results Delay -- Did Not Receive EmailPosted: 04 Mar 2010 at 9:43am |

Dear Sir or Madam:
I was informed via forum posts last evening that results for the SSC2010 first round (with finalist implications) were delayed until March 9th. It was stated that an email was sent out to that effect. I received no such email as of the time of this post. I checked all of my accounts and all spam folders/filters I could find. No email. For obvious reasons, I am not going to post my email address here, but my name is Joseph Kaufman and the email address I should have on file for this competition ends in "137.net". Please look into why I would not be receiving emails at this point. Both the first-round kick-off email and the story submission confirmation emails reached me with no problem, on time. Next, with email glitches being potentially in play, I am concerned about the finalist confirmation process. Having the results now delayed until just three days before the final round kicks off exacerbates the issue. If a finalist makes every possible effort to get notification to NYCMM but emails still fail to get through, will their position in the final round be forfeit? (Rules state confirmation by March 10th -- is that deadline still intact in light of the judging delay?) Alternately, could a web-based confirmation process be put in place to confirm finalist participation (since the web operations here appear to be more reliable than email)? Any help you can offer in checking about my email address and advising about finalist confirmation would be greatly appreciated. After reading posted stories from my group, I don't actually expect to make the finals, but I would hate for the reason to be a purely technical one. Thanks, Joe Kaufman P.S. Just a bit of advice from a tech-head, Hotmail (the default email system for MSN) is not exactly known as a stalwart of speed and reliability (especially when mass emailing). It may serve as an improvement (even if redundant) to use Google's email server (SMTP) in tandem with Hotmail to send out emails when they are of import. Probably better to have multiple confirmation than none at all. Instructions on setting up Google for your outgoing mail can be found here: http://lifehacker.com/111166/how-to-use-gmail-as-your-smtp-server If you need a Google email account invitation, let me know and I can send you one. |

We apologize for the inconvenience with the email, we will make sure to look into why you never received it. Regarding final round confirmation, we would never take away a writer's spot in the finals without their express written consent.
We will send out separate emails with final round rules and ask all finalists to read and confirm their participation in the final round (or let us know if they will not be participating). If we do not hear back, we will follow up via e-mail and phone if needed to get confirmation before the finals begin. We will also post additional details on the website for finalists, just in case there is an issue with the emails. Even if we do not hear back from a finalist, their spot in the finals is still secure. We will not take a writer out of the finals unless they specifically ask us to do so.
We hope this helps answer the question. The most important thing is that writers check their email and the website for the list of finalists and get in touch with us at nycmmm@msn.com if you are selected as a finalist, but never receive any additional e-mails with the final round rules. Thanks and good luck!
