Results at Midnight on Wednesday, feedback Thursday or Friday. That's usually the way it goes. You get your feedback from the judges before you start working on your next piece.

Now I have the "Pink Elephants on Parade" scene from Dumbo playing in my brain. Not a bad thing. But yes, brain-worm for sure. Shocked

Timelines are still in the http://www.nycmidnight.com/Competitions/FFC/Official%20Rules%20and%20Participation%20Agreement%20FFC2017.pdf" rel="nofollow - participation agreement , right where we left them. :)

They do *not guarantee feedback will arrive before the next round, though they do seem to try and have gotten much better about that. In fact, the only mention you will see of feedback in the agreement is:
- one paragraph detailing what happens if feedback is screwed up in ways that suggest scores were screwed up, in ways that might impact advancement - specifically, what they do if that is discovered too late, after the next round has begun.
- one line pointing out that judges are not required to provide feedback for DQed submissions.

In other words - NO commitment about feedback whatever.  We get it when we get it.  :)  (but it has generally been within a week, and recently been faster)

Worry not! To be quite honest, the Beep beep line was from the 1990 movie. Can't recall hearing it in this one.

And for the record, I really enjoyed the movie! Big smile

I WANNA.

BUT.

The thing is, I got a 24h video games marathon that very same weekend (Nov. 4th, 8 am til Nov. 5, 8 am). You can probably guess how much brain juice this can take from little oldish me.

Nevertheless, I'm definitely wanting to. Betting my future on entry number 2 could be a good way to go at it... LOL

And just so we're clear, I'm doing this marathon thing for charity. Absolutely NO FUN will be had. It's called Extra Life, and all moneys collected go to local Children's Hospitals...

That is AWESOME that you are doing that for charity. But short screenplay IS like Flash where it's not sudden death. So there are two rounds. And maybe your weekend activities will inspire you. :)

I'm definitely giving this a shot. It's the only NYCM contest I haven't done yet.

Hell, maybe I'll even be able to write it AT my marathon. We call it a video games marathon because that's mostly what we do, but I could very well label it a "games" (at large) marathon. Board Games are cool, even fricking frisbee is cool. So long as you PLAY.

And NYCM comps are definitely some sort of game, for me.

Food for thoughts...

I'm such a newb. How do they post the results? Or where? Do they email them? Do they post them on a message board? Do we all get to see each other's scores? I've read the rules a dozen times it seems like and I can't find that information anywhere. I'm so stressed and afraid they will post them and since I don't know where to look, I won't know what my score was. Also, what about the feedback? I've been too embarrassed to post these questions, but hopefully there's at least one other newb who will appreciate the anaswers too.

Well for the Screenplay Challenge results were posted on the website first, then you got your feedback via email afterwards. I'm guessing this is also the way to go with this one...

"Beep beep, Ritchie!"

What did you think of the movie?

I thought the film was fantastic. A very faithful adaptation to the novel. Muschietti takes the delicate balancing act of a film blended equally with horror and a down-to-earth coming of age story and makes it look easy. If I have one complain of the film, is that this 140 minute film was too short and could have used another 20 minutes to really flesh it out, if only because the source material is so huge. I am hoping since the film is such a resounding success that Warner Brothers will give Chapter Two some extra time since they'll be less worried about a longer runtime affecting box office.

It was truly a great film that finally gives us something besides that awful TV miniseries from 1990.

I drink tea with Monin flavor syrup, hold the rocks. I buy John Conti tea by the gallon from a local restaurant where they brew it. Then, I buy the aforementioned flavor syrups from moninstore.com. They have, like, a hundred flavors. (Oh. Also, the John Conti tea I get is unsweetened.) So when I add a touch of flavor syrup, I'm drinking something tasty that is still low in sugar--way lower than a soft drink or Gatorade. It's all part of my master plan to stave off adult-onset diabetes.

Drinks on the house! Pass the tumbler... of tea. Beer

Thank you. Heart You just never know with the judges. I'm finding with these comps that the stories I write that I like best don't fare as well, and the ones I write and feel "meh" about tend to do a bit better. Go figure. Guess I'm just feeling the butterflies a little bit, even though this is all completely out of my control now.

So based on the spirit of this thread, I should probably go have a glass of wine. Or five. I will send you a spot of tea, though, and my wishes for all the best this round. I am rooting for you!

I've been dealing with power outages, mandatory curfews and lots of wind and rain from Irma (here in central Georgia). It's nothing compared to what some have endured with this storm and with Harvey, and I'm thankful. I haven't had much time to feel anxious, but now that things have settled down here, I'm feeling the butterflies. Good luck everyone! I can't wait to start reading stories again next week!

Yikes, Jon, I didn't know you were located in the thick of Irma. I'm sorry. Hope all is well with you and yours and that the scores will give you a good (and happy!) distraction from your current reality. (And yes, I look forward to the reading frenzy next week as well).

Just stocked up on brews. Actually took the day off tomorrow (I also very much need the rest). So I'm more than ready.

Jon, sorry to read this. I know a few people down in Florida, and they've been hit pretty hard. Not like St. Maarten, but still. This was, almost literally, a sh*tstorm. A sh*tty storm at the very least.

Best of luck and butterflies, all!

Oy. I'm in the middle of cleaning/fixing/painting the duplex we're buying and the tenant left a mess. They had 4 cats and chain smoked. And they never, freakin', cleaned up. Ever. In 4 years. And the cats all had diarrhea. Explosively. This weekend I'm going to start the priming of the walls and I'll be writing with no energy. Negative energy even. You can call me Negasonic Mid-Thirties Something Bedhead.

Have you tried renting an ozone machine to get the smells out? I hear they work wonders, especially on smoke.

Yeah, borrowing one from a friend. The carpet is a problem. Don't have the time or money to replace it atm. Need to pull back a corner, though; if there's hardwood then I might be lucky.

I'm glad I live on the west coast, so the results will be 8:59 (assuming they're on time), early enough I can freak the eff out and/or have a drink (depending on the results) and still get to bed at a decent hour. Tomorrow's first day back to work after a one-week vacation, already fallen out of the habit of getting up at 5:15 AM.
Good luck everyone!

Now of course you know you need to write this, at some point, ShroudedWolf. Perhaps when you're not so, er, close to it all...

I forgot these results were happening tonight. I kinda fell off the planet after round one, never even posted my story. (House fire, house move, clean new house of mold and filth, the likes of which I hope nobody ever has to see again, etc.) My trusty calendar reminder alerted me to this with just enough time to freak out for the next four hours over it. Thanks, technology.

You had to say four hours. You had to put a number on it.

I've been putting numbers on it all day. Once it gets down to a manageable number, you know...

And it's going to keep me up past my bedtime now, since my bedtime recently became "I have to go to bed by nine to get eight hours of sleep and that ain't happening, so I'm aiming for ten and that's still seriously uncivilized for bedtime". Gahhhhh.

I should add that ten is the scheduled time for results where I am. Midnight wouldn't happen with these work hours, no way.

Really, why would breast milk be one of the objects? It's awful. Is semen one? I guess I'm just feeling cranky. But I've got nothing to complain about compared to house fires and Irma. I'm glad to hear you're all safe and sorry there's so much stress to manuevre through. I wish you all the best on the point results and happy writing this weekend.

I only drink Gin martinis (bombay) and I drink them dry, so less vermouth. I never eat the olives so I just take them out. I prefer with a twist of lemon.

My other go-to drink is a delicious Manhattan. mmmm

I guess I'm fortunate not to be anxious at all about waiting for the results. I've got the new episode of South Park and some stuff to do around the house before the appraiser comes in on Friday, so I'll be kept pretty busy before results/next assignment.

To the person with the untidy new house: I had the same issue with the second floor of my dad's house, when my brother moved out. He'd had kitties, and his kitties were apparently unaccustomed to using their litter boxes. I don't remember how I got it clean, though. This was back in, maybe, 2002. All I remember is what he named his kitties: Princess and Fatty.

I'll take 7 points for not my best effort. I figure so long as I can get 10+ points in round 2 I'll advance. I think can get 15 if I try harder than I did for round 1. Short stories aren't my forte. Shortest thing I've ever written is 8,100 words.
