Yeah, I also really want to choose a specific genre to focus ideas. I had sci-fi twice, so even though I was tempted to go with something "solarpunk" (since who needs to stick to the genres as defined by NYC Midnight in this round?), I think I'm going to go a different route. Not entirely sure what yet, though horror/ghost story does seem appropriate.

This is a great image, and not nearly as cliche as a Bloody Mary. Nothing is too obvious if you make it unique and interesting. I was trying to make a unique and interesting vampire plot myself, but I'm pretty sure I'm going in another direction or, y'know, thirty...
Had a concept I really liked, but I'm too unfamiliar with the setting, and there isn't enough time to research it in depth. Something's gotta stick soon, right? |

I hadn't thought vampires at all, so might not be as obvious as you fear. Vampires drinking tequila sunrises? :)

Gah I can't get my brain off of vampires, which is just way too obvious...

Maybe just pick one of your favorite genres? (That's what I'm doing.)

Gah, "open genre" is somehow harder for me to start chewing on than giving me a specific genre...

I was assigned horror for my first two rounds. My muse finds this turn of events very hilarious. She won't stop cackling in the back of my mind, and it's hard to brainstorm through the cacophony of a cackling muse. Maybe she'll eventually calm down enough to start throwing me some non-horror ideas as well.
