Now that the excitement of winning our heat has sunk in, I'm all about freaking about about the fact that we have to this all over again, but in 24 hours.  I went back and looked at the genre list, and here are the ones I'd love to get:

comedy
thriller
suspense
drama
film noir

The ones I'd be okay with:

horror
ghost story
monster movie
mockumentary
mystery
rom com
action/adventure

The ones I dread to my bones:

sci fi
political satire (WHY?)
fantasy
fairy tale

Although I've come to realize that sci fi is not so much a genre as it is a milieu into which you can put a drama, a thriller, a comedy, etc.  So maybe I'm not so scared of that one after all.  But political satire?!  That's just so... specific.

What genres fill you with dread/anticipation/nausea/meh?

Check out our script:

I had fairy tale. Not as exciting as I would have liked.
Cool

I wound up with fantasy which kind of forced me to dive headlong into a certain style.  I don't think I'd mind doing it again but I'd prefer something different.

I would really hate to get action/adventure.  That represents a type of storytelling that does not even remotely appeal to me so, while I think I could come up with an interesting story, I imagine I'd have an incredibly hard time with the execution of an action style script.

I didn't advance and therefore I have a different take on what I hope will be the finals combination. I hope you get:

Fairy Tale + Bomb Disposal Unit

Rom Com + Orphanage Explosion

Political Satire + Darfur

Mockumentary + Pakistani Rape Crisis Center

Yeah, yeah, I know. The report button is down here.

...interesting. You can't report your own posts. I'm not my most favorite guy on here, but I think I should be allowed to save myself.

I did advance so I hope you get:

Ringworm + a really puffy cold sore

a debilitating bone disorder + an autographed picture of Carrot Top

AIDs + die

and the most logical explanation for the "you're not one of my favorite people on here but..." comment(as brought to you by ABEAR) is that this is an internet forum and hence breeds a complete lack of any social etiquette whatsoever.

Sincerely Yours,

Project "I paid off the judges to advance" Dan

I wrote my script in four hours.  How else would you explain my advancing?  It's either that or I've entered some bizarro parallel universe where bad writers who procrastinate go through to the final round.

Ironically this is the first time I've even placed.  The last two years I participated I spent the whole week working and got nowhere.  This year I sit on my duff, nearly forgetting I'd even signed up and I make it.

Go figure.

I hereby place the curse of the squirly heebie jeebies on you. May your plot twists be predictable and your characters bland.

Good luck Smile
