This first round I wrote two scripts and was so torn about which to submit. Thankfully, I chose correctly. Last year I think I wrote three or four pieces in a round! I got lucky there, too. Or maybe I have to write until I see the "winner." Luckily, I write very fast (if not always well).

Just wondering if anyone else employs multiple madness. If so, do you think it helps or hinders?

I've thrown out an idea in mid-round to start over with a new one, but I've never written more than one script for any of the competitions. I have enough trouble getting that single script out of my system and onto the page that there usually isn't a lot of time to think about any other ideas.

I have done the start-stop-delete routine with a couple of ideas. I tend to go with gut feel.

One and done. First round I weeded out some possibilities in my head the first day before I wrote anything. This round the prompt gave me an almost immediate visual idea, which I fleshed out. Whatever does the trick, right?

I wrote two scripts last round. I usually outline 3-4 ideas before digging deeper.

This. QFT, as they say. I pretty much went through the exact same process for R1 and R2.

R1 was a long winded thing, with many adjustments and tweaks, whereas R2 almost jumped on the page. Slept on my assignment, then put it down in 3-4 hours Friday morning. Now I'm looking for weaknesses and holes. But essentially, idea one and draft one were The One, for R2...

I don't write anything until I have run my idea in my head a few times. I take notes to make sure I remember what I come up with, but they're all short form...just mapping. Usually* I do a little research to make sure my initial idea is sound and then I plan the scenes I want from there. I have to "see" it in my head before I can write it and decide whether I like it. Then I just write the scenes I know I need and add/cut as needed. It's not done until my gut & my personal reader (my wonderful husband) have signed off on it as something I can be proud of.

*(Ha! first time I ever wrote a screenplay is for this competition, but in writing I do this too)

On a related note: thinking about writing a few 5 page scripts between rounds, just to get a sense of how the 24 hour time crunch will feel if I advance. Anyone try something like that?

I did the short screenplay comp which gave us 48 hrs to write a screenplay - which was fine if intense. I did have to do a full rewrite one Sunday so it seems doable - but it doesn't give you the ability to put it down for a while and mull.
