Just in case Joe Kaufman's second question didn't catch your eye in light of his email confirmation issues - can you please clarify whether you are

1) suspending the "opt-in / confirmation of participation for finals round" rule due to the delay;

2) pushing the finals round back, commensurate with the delay time needed for first-round judging, and keeping the opt in window the same;

or

3) compressing the amount of time available to eligible finalists for sending in their opt in / confirming participation messages  (to virtually nothing)?

Perhaps there is a 4th option I'm not seeing.

Please let us know - and if you cross-post the answer / update / clarification to the Short Story Review forum, the authors who have been very actively congregating there will appreciate it too.

Thanks,

David Saslav

The final round will still be taking place as scheduled, from March 12-13, 2010.  We also plan on sending final round rules when the 1st Round Finalists are announced so the writers will have at least 48 hours to read the rules and confirm their participation.  Also, as answered in topic http://forums.nycmidnight.com/ssc2010-results-delay-did-not-receive-email_topic3414.html, we only take away a writer's spot in the finals if they ask us to do so.

We hope this helps, but please let us know if you have any other questions or need anything else.  Thanks and good luck!

I'm a Hotmail user and also received no email about the delay in judging. Perhaps Joe Kaufman is right about it not being the best system for mass emailing.

Just FYI, I am not on Hotmail (for receiving), but having it on both ends could be an issue, I suppose.  thewriteidea, you are the first I have heard of someone else not getting the delay message.

That's why I am glad to hear NYCMMM has policy in place so I don't have to worry about it so much.  *smile*  The web site is pretty dang reliable, and the forums, since switch-over, have been quite solid.

Post your story, writeidea!  At least you'll get a critique out of it!  *smile*

Thanks, Joe, for encouraging me to post my story, but I'm passing on the forum this year. I'm in an intensive weekly writing class and am drowning in "feedback" - so the less critiques I get, the better right now!

But good luck to you and your story. We should find out today. I was in Heat 28 and will post a note here if I make the next cut. Would love to find out if you make it as well, and, if you let me know what heat you are in, I'll be sure to check your story out.

Hey, we are all very supportive here - ASSUMING you don't omit apostrophes, commas, or other punctuation, and never misuse exclamation marks.  Then we're like jackals.

Actually, I always get very good feedback (I was the sixth place overall winner in NYC Midnight's screenwriting competition last spring and have placed in couple of other contests this past year); but I just don't want any feedback right now, good or bad. It's time for a break from other people's opinions so I can reconnect with my own, deeper instincts.

Hi, since I mentioned in my earlier post that I'd leave a note here if I made it to the next cut, here's that note. I did make it and the prompt was great: a romance about blindness. Loved writing this one!

Take care, Joe, and thanks for being a voice for clear communication re: contest timelines. You helped us all stay on the same page.
