Anyone know the average dropout rate for these competitions? I gotta guess about 10% of people just don't turn a story in. Normal life schedules, or they hate their heat and can't think of anything, stuff like that. I'm also curious if there are any correlations between attrition and genre (like, does RomCom have a higher dropout rate than SciFi?).

The dropout rate is more like 75% if people see that I am entered. Does not make any difference what genre.

I've often wondered this. I figure it is pretty high in the first round and less and less as you go on. It makes all successes a little less successful :(

Since half the entrants in the first round don't show any result, it's essentially impossible to know if someone dropped out or just scored a zero. The only thing that can be said for certain is that: - 50% of entrants do not get a score in the first challenge - 50% do not get a score in the second challenge - 85% do not progress to round 2 (5 from each group, groups of ~30ish gives a 15% figure for progression) Beyond that, there is insufficient data to extrapolate. That said, I would guess that 10% is awfully high. Entrance fees for this contest are significant, and most folks don't just throw that money away. :)

Is there? All I saw was a tiny little boy with a big mouth and a pea shooter. |
